Lead the Recovery with Naomi Bloom

HR industry expert Naomi Bloom recently hosted a fun-filled and information-packed webinar in which she advised HR leaders to take advantage of the current economic recovery to make significant changes to their business. The worst of the economic crisis is definitely behind us, says Bloom, but she’s careful to point out that this recession was more widespread than any in the past—it affected companies of all sizes and in all industries, and people at all income levels and in all areas of the world. Naomi refuses to believe all is lost; smart companies will take advantage of the opportunities to lead the recovery.

Preparing to Lead the Recovery:

  • Action 1: Future-proof personal finances—spending less than you make is the new norm.
  • Action 2: Future-proof our good health and fitness—no point in #1 in you’re not able to enjoy life.
  • Action 3: Future-proof our careers—the right KSAOCs (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics), including great work habits, are key to your future success.

Obviously, those are goals for personal fulfillment, which in turn will help you succeed in other areas of your life, including your work. The rest of the webinar focused on Naomi’s ideas on the recovery priorities for HRM (Human Resource Management).

HRM Recovery Priorities:

  • Action 4: Focus your limited HRM resources on the roles/people that drive business outcomes.
  • Action 5: Not all HRM policies, programs, practices, and products are equally valuable. You need to clear out those that don’t drive business outcomes.

Naomi wasn’t finished. The webinar subject matter turned to the HRMDS recovery priorities, including the opportunity to make real progress in reducing complexity and upgrading systems.

HRMDS Recovery Priorities:

  • Action 6: Make certain backup data from SaaS vendors is available and usable.
  • Action 7: Hold documentation and cross-training for key HRM and HRMDS components.
  • Action 8: Institute an HRMDS strategy that drives business outcomes.
  • Action 9: Establish a “hit list” of high-impact HRMDS improvements and how to get them accomplished as soon as possible.
